Gucci Mane Talks New Album, 1017 Brick Squad
In a recent interview with Yahoo! Music, Gucci Mane spoke on the concept behind his new album, his take on music sales, and compared his Brick Squad 1017 group to that of a certain famous 1990’s record label.
After dropping his major label debut The State vs. Radric Davis last winter, the Atlanta rapper is set to release his sophomore effort The Appeal: Georgia’s Most Wanted next month. Stating that the album is nearly 80% done, he explained, “It's actually the sequel to The State vs. Radric Davis, my last album. It's just about second chances, about never giving up.”
While The State vs. Radric Davis has sold favorably well for 2009-10 numbers, Gucci Mane theorized that the overall decline of album sales may actually be beneficial for fans and artists alike. "People aren't selling as many records as they were selling in the '90s, but [that’s] great for the fans. The artists that you love, they got to do more now.”
Continuing, he said, "Me, I love to work anyway. Of course, I'd love to sell a trillion CDs, but at the end of the day, I love making music the most. The more I do it the better I get. It’s not making me stale; it's making me fresher."
After his album makes its way to record store shelves, Gucci projected protégé Waka Flocka Flame’s debut Murda-Man Flocka will come immediately afterward, followed by the release of 1017 Brick Squad crew’s (Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame, OJ Da Juiceman) currently-untitled collaborative projec
Loosely comparing Brick Squad to Death Row Records, Gucci Mane explained, “'Pac, Dre, Snoop, and the Dogg Pound…I can’t say which person is which, but as far as just musically, we got people who have been doing it for a long time, newcomers, and people who just play they role. We got a championship team, we just practicing to get ready for the game.”
The Appeal: Georgia’s Most Wanted is tentatively scheduled for an August 31 release through 1017 Brick Squad/Asylum/Warner Brothers.
Swizz Beatz Denies Wedding Rumors, Talks Album
Swizz Beatz has shot down rumors that he and high-profile fiancee Alicia Keys will be getting married this weekend.
In an interview with OK! Magazine, the "Ruff Ryders Anthem" producer balked at the notion. “Well its not this weekend!” he explained. ”But you know, were excited. Our union is amazing. Our union is pure. Our union is positive no matter what people say or what people think, time will tell everything and you know, silence is the best thing. We just keep it private and we do our thing and just have fun with it.”
Swizz also explained that his wedding would be low key. “Just an amazing day,” he said of the future ceremony. “Very intimate. It’s not a superstar wedding. It’s not a gimmicky wedding. It’s a true bond of love, you know, that’s not based on having the most famous person sitting there while you’re doing it. It’s about having the closest people who really understand you as a person and that really have love for you. So it’s a small situation.”
A wedding with Keys, who is pregnant with Swizz' child, isn't the only thing the he's got planned, as the beatsmith provided some details about his upcoming album . “I’m working on my album which is super incredible. Got everybody on there from Jay-Z to John Legend to Mary [J. Blige] to Drake. Super amazing album. I’m also working on Lenny Kravitz new album, working with Cold Play.”
As for a track with Alicia, the only problem Swizz will face there is to decide which track to choose. “On one song she just played keys on. I dont know, cause I dont know which one I’m going to use. I have a few songs.”
Rick Ross, Helicopters, and Stripper Poles
The Rap game is a consistent quest for one-up-men-ship; how much money I got, how much bling, and definitely how many women. In 2010 the award for the best showman may have to go to the man who’s lyrics continue to keep him in the game, even after 50 tried to shut the casket on him, Mr. Rick Ross.
With Ross releasing his album this week he decided to set the bar high for all of his rappin’ peers by arriving to his release party in a Helicopter, yes a Helicopter. Let’s one up that feat and state that he also had his party at Miami's King Of Diamonds "gentlemen's" club. With Ciroc on tap and DJ Khaled on the Mic it was an evening not to be missed. But don’t take my word for it watch the video below and just enjoy……just like you were there.
50 Cent Might Not Release "Black Magic"
50 Cent may end up shelving what was going to be his upcoming solo album, Black Magic.
The G-Unit general revealed to Rolling Stone Brasil that his writing took things into a different artistic direction.
"I've written the album, Black Magic, but I'm not sure if it'll be my next album," explained Fif. "Since I've made it back to America, after recording in the UK and different territories while I was on the road, I started writing material that don't quite fit that concept, that album. Black Magic had a specific vibe to it, a different style of music and I was playing with different song structures, music from different genres like rock music -- since I got back, I've been writing some things that don't quite fit that because so many producers were accumulating material to send me more ideas so when I got back, I was kinda bombarded with a whole lot of production."
50 likened the change of heart to Eminem's change from Relapse 2 to Recovery. "To give you an example, Eminem's Recovery album. He had Relapse and Relapse 2 and I recorded for him on part two but because I was on tour with him during Recovery, we didn't get a chance to work together on that album but he re-wrote the album."
Dr. Dre Makes Beats For Justin Bieber
While Dr. Dre has inched his way closer to presenting fans with his long-awaited Detox album, he's also taken some time out to collaborate with other artists. He recently produced a song with Jay-Z, "Under Pressure," which is said to be the first single from the album and now he's reportedly teamed up with Justin Bieber to crank out some tracks.
The 16-year old pop star tweeted today, "Got to be in the studio with the legend himself Dr. Dre. Made a couple beats and he gave me some advice...i was hyped. can u blame me?" The young singer has gained co-signs not only from his mentor Usher, but also from rappers like Game. "He's another artist that breaks the color lines," Game told Rap-Up TV. "Everyone loves this kid and he seems like a good kid. More power to him."
Bieber's peer Sean Kingston also tweeted that he'd spent some time with Dre and Bieber in the studio.
Aww Man Today Was A Dope Day!!! Got To Meet Dr. Dre.
50 Cent Talks "Black Magic," Beef
In preparation for his upcoming show in London, 50 Cent called in to Tim Westwood's BBC Radio show. During the phone interview, 50 Cent discussed how he handles beef, claiming that his numerous high profile grudges with artists like Fat Joe and Rick Ross have been purely reactionary. He also told Tim that he will not be as quick to respond to future attacks because his altercations have earned him an unfair "bad guy" reputation.
"I don't have...issues with people until they say things that make me feel like they want a problem," said the Queens rapper. "Point to one situation that I've been in, one altercation where I was competing with another artist that I've started...Ain't that hip-hop? There's always been battling. It's always been a part of the culture. In the future, because I've been kind of captured as the actual bad guy on some level because they watch me compete and win and it feels like it was effortless, I will [make] a point to not even respond. I'l just look and watch people when they say things."
50 also talked about his his highly contested upcoming album Black Magic. According to the G-Unit general, the album does find him experimenting with more uptempo techno-style production, but he assures fans that the the album won't find him sacrificing his unique perspective.
"I've got a joint that I did that was real uptempo," he explained. "It's still 50 Cent...[for] my Black Magic album, I've been listening to a lot of different kinds of music. I just want to create something that's out of the box, that ain't the same style of music or same kinds of music [that I normally make]. I'm using different song formats...it's still hip-hop music, it's still 50 Cent content, it's just written in a different way [from the traditional 16 bar format]."
